Yoni Prakshalana (Vaginal Cleansing)

Triphala decoction is widely used in Ayurveda for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective for vaginal infections like candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis. It can be used as a sitz bath to reduce itching, discharge, and inflammation.

Always use freshly prepared decoction and consult an Ayurvedic practitioner before use, especially during pregnancy or if symptoms persist.

Ingredients:

  • Triphala powder – 1 tablespoon (approx. 10–15 g)

  • Water – 500 ml to 2 liters (depending on intended use)

  • A clean pot (preferably stainless steel or glass)

  • Strainer or muslin cloth

  • Bathtub or basin (for sitz bath)

Step-by-step instructions

  • Add 1 tablespoon of Triphala powder to 500 ml–1 liter of water.

  • Bring the mixture to a boil over low heat.

  • Simmer for 5–10 minutes until the liquid reduces to half (e.g., 500 ml water → 250/300 ml).

  • Turn off the heat and let it cool to lukewarm temperature.

  • Strain the decoction using a clean cloth or fine strainer to remove all particles.

  • Use the strained liquid as a vaginal wash or sitz bath:

    • For external washing: Gently cleanse the vulvar area with the decoction. (Best and easy to follow, little quantity can be used twice in a day)

    • For sitz bath: Pour into a clean bathtub or basin and sit for 10–15 minutes. (quantity of decoction should be more for bathtub or basin and extra water can be added in decoction to make sure the vulvar area is soaked)

  • Do not insert the decoction deep into the vagina unless advised by a qualified practitioner.

  • After washing, rinse with plain warm water if desired, especially if any residue causes irritation.

  • Prepare a fresh batch each day; do not store for more than 24 hours.

💡 Dosage & Frequency: Use once or twice daily for up to 7–10 days, or as directed by an Ayurvedic Practitioner/Doctor
